Carnegie Foundation selects 51短视频 for 2026 Community Engagement Classification

51短视频 has been awarded the , a national recognition of the University鈥檚 institutional commitment and excellence in community engagement. Loyola is the only private institution in Maryland awarded with the classification.

The classification, which is valid until 2032, is awarded to higher education institutions who demonstrate national models for community-engaged learning and ensure reciprocal partnerships with local nonprofit, public, and other organizations.

鈥淲e are incredibly proud to be recognized for our institutional commitment to community engagement. Caring for our community is an integral part of Loyola鈥檚 mission as a Jesuit, Catholic university鈥攁nd it's a focus area of our strategic plan, Together We Rise,鈥 said Terrence M. Sawyer, J.D., president of Loyola. 鈥淎s an anchor institution in Baltimore, we are called to support the flourishment of our neighbors along the York Road Corridor and across the city. This recognition is a direct reflection of the tremendous work of our faculty, staff, administrators, and students at Loyola, as well as our community partners.鈥

Loyola is one of more than 230 U.S. colleges and universities to receive this classification in 2026. The Carnegie Community Engagement Classification is the leading framework for institutional assessment and recognition of community engagement in U.S. higher education. In order to receive the classification, Loyola demonstrated excellent alignment among campus mission, culture, leadership, resources, and practices that support dynamic and noteworthy community engagement.

鈥淚t鈥檚 such an honor for our campus to receive this Carnegie Elective Classification for Community Engagement,鈥 said Gia Grier McGinnis, Dr.PH., executive director of neighborhood resilience and community engagement. 鈥淚n this application, we noted the expansion and the depth of community engagement on our campus; there are now six formalized community engagement centers and institutes. Community engagement is also happening across all divisions on campus. I am deeply grateful for all the campus and community partners who contributed to this intensive self-study and who work every day to make this world a better place. Service is truly at the center of our Jesuit, Catholic mission here at Loyola.鈥

Loyola first received its Carnegie designation in 2010. In the time since Loyola was most recently awarded the Carnegie Classification in 2020, several University centers and initiatives have marked major milestones in their histories. The Center for Community, Service, and Justice crossed the 30-year mark and the Loyola Clinical Centers is more than 20 years old. Loyola's place-based commitment to communities along the York Road commercial corridor is over 15 years old.

Loyola has also made new commitments to sustainability, deeper investments and recognitions in entrepreneurship and innovation, and larger-scale commitments to York Road, including supporting the development of the York Corridor Business Improvement District.

According to the 2021 National Assessment of Service and Community Engagement, 55% of Loyola undergraduate students and 68% of faculty participate annually in some form of service and community engagement.
